за исключением French fries (см. ниже), все выражения в американском английском, связанные с Францией, содержат, в лучшем случае, намеки на разного рода непристойности. "Французские штучки" - это, по мнению американцев, все самое вульгарное. Правда и остальная Европа, по их же мнению, не многим лучше (см. рис. (Мы что вам рассказывали про европейские ассоциации американцев (см. FRENCH и GREEK)? Да, на щите написано верно, это действительно..not your average book store (не обычный книжный магазин), уж поверьте! Там и видео для взрослых, и еще много чего, и открыто круглосуточно... Дания (в понимании американцев)!)).French (French way) — оральный секс ( cunnilingus). По этому поводу есть классический куплет:

А теперь, для разнообразия, рассказ пониженной похабности.French fries — картофель фри. В Америке его называют - "картофель по-французски". Если в их Макдональдсе вы будете спрашивать просто картошку ( potatoes) - вас не поймут (слова "фри" там тоже не знают). Почему по-французски? А почему горки американские? А почему фрукт "киви"?
Здесь не удержаться, чтобы и про киви не рассказать. Невозможно было рекламировать в Америке фрукт, официальное название которого - китайский крыжовник. Вот и придумали лет 50 назад сан-францисские евреи, занятые продажей импортных фруктов симпатичное название kiwi. В Америке это еще и кличка новозеландцев, земляков одноименной птички.Французы, конечно, изначально никакого отношения к French fries не имели. Зная это, вы теперь можете оценить недавнее развитие политико-лингвистических событий. После того, как Франция в глазах американцев совершенно опозорилась со своей предательской политикой в отношении Ирака, в ресторане Конгресса США переименовали French fries во Freedom fries. Не можем не добавить - под хохот всей страны. -
